August 16th

The 16th of August will always be a special day for me.  On this date in 2013, I chose to come to Central SDA Church.  I remember that day clearly.  Even the Lord smiled on it because the day was sunny with a few clouds.

Prior to August 16, 2013, I had begun reading the Bible again on my own, but as weeks went by, I began to ask the Lord to find a church for me.  I knew that I needed to grow spiritually, but I wanted to be in an environment where the truth of the Word would be taught.  As it turned out, I was on the internet one day and I somehow came across Central's website.  I can't remember the circumstances; all I know is that the Lord led me to the church.

I remember walking inside and the first smiling face I saw was Phyllis Anderson's, who greeted me and gave me a copy of the service program.  I went inside and sat down, looking over the architecture of the church.  I looked at the ceiling and it reminded me of Noah's ark. Even though I knew no one there, I didn't feel like a stranger. I kept thinking, "I'm where I belong."  The Lord blessed me with exactly what I wanted: a church where people of different racial groups attended.  My mother had raised me to "think internationally", even though I grew up in an all-Black neighborhood.  I loved seeing the rainbow of different nationalities at Central.  I received a thank-you card from the church the following week.

It's beautiful how the Lord's timing can be; a few weeks later, I received information in the mail about Dr. Clouzet's Prophecy Seminar. I was astonished!  It was the Lord's way of moving me in the right direction. He knew that I needed to attain knowledge about the Books of Daniel and Revelation and learn what they meant to our world today.  The Lord didn't want me to be in the dark; all I had to do was show up - and I did - every night.  A second miracle was taking place in my head and heart.  The first one occurred when I was seven years old when I became a musician after seeing classical-guitarist Oscar Ghilia on the KETC network. Up until that time, I was only listening to various types of music. One morning, my mother told me that she was compelled to wake me because she "wanted me to see something".  I sat and watched Mr. Ghilia use a technique that I hadn't seen before. When the program was over, I thanked my mother and went back to bed. When I woke up a few hours later, all of these "files" opened up in my head!  I had to learn the classical-guitar technique!  Mom couldn't afford to pay for a teacher, but that didn't matter.  The Lord gave me the gift of self-instruction, so I taught myself the technique, which led to my self-instruction of other instruments, such as the electric and acoustic basses.

My second miracle was another gift from the Lord: He opened my eyes and ears and began placing His Word on my heart. I began to understand His Word in ways that I never understood before. I was spiritually inspired, and when I was baptized on October 12, 2013, it was one of the greatest moments of my life. Thanks to the Bible classes I've attended, I can recite Scripture from memory now (a process that I'm still working on and will continue to do forever). I've told people how I've learned more about the Bible in the past two years than I've ever known my whole life. I've been blessed with a job where there are other Christians in the office and we don't have to worry about "refraining from talking about the Lord" with each other.  In fact, the Lord has blessed me with two women at work, where, as I learn about the Lord and His Word, I teach it to them.  And just think: it all started back on August 16, 2013.
